A dairy farmer in Rajasthan, India was looking for a better solution for his cowsheds, as the traditional tin sheds were getting very hot in the summer, were prone to leaking in the rain and had a very short lifespan. He heard about Pronto’s Heat Proof Double Tin, which was affordable and promised a whole host of benefits.
The Pronto Double Tin cost around Rs 106/SqFt, which is only slightly more than the cost of two tin sheets, but the farmer got a much better product in return. The Pronto Double Tin was 1,00,000 times more heat proof than regular tin sheets, 100 times stronger, saved 50% of the metal purlin cost, had double the lifespan and was leakage and dust free.
The farmer decided to give it a try and soon realized that it was a great decision. The cows were much more comfortable in the Pronto Double Tin sheds, which led to an increase in milk production. The temperature control also reduced the incidence of diseases in the animals, resulting in less need for medicines.
By the end of the first year, the farmer was making a lot more money than he had before. For each cow that he housed in the Pronto Double Tin shed, the additional cost was only Rs 1200 for the entire lifetime of the shed, which is only Rs 5 per month. It was a great investment for the farmer and he has been able to grow his business significantly since then.
The additional cost of Rs 5 per month that the farmer had to pay for the Pronto Double Tin shed was insignificant compared to the benefit that he got from it. The increased comfort for the cows led to an increase in milk production, which more than compensated for the additional cost. The temperature control also reduced the incidence of diseases in the animals, resulting in less need for medicines and more money saved. The additional cost of Rs 5 per month was therefore far outweighed by the benefits that the farmer reaped from the Pronto Double Tin shed.
The additional cost of Rs 5 per month was very small when compared to the value of the additional milk that the farmer was able to produce. The average price of milk in India is around Rs 20 per liter, so the additional output of 100 ml per day per animal translates to a gain of Rs 60 per month. This means that the farmer was able to make a profit of Rs 55 per month, after accounting for the cost of the Pronto Double Tin shed. On top of that, the farmer also benefitted from the savings in cost of medicines due to the temperature control in the shed. This means that the Pronto Double Tin shed was a very cost-effective solution for the farmer and more than compensated for the additional cost of Rs 5 per month.
